• First step is decide what you want to do. Often what you enjoy as a hobby could be turned into a business.
• Most people offer a service or sell a product.
• After you decide what you are going to offer, your next step is how to spread the word.
• Spreading the word is your marketing strategy
• Best thing to do is create a business plan. In your business plan you can stress what you are going to sell, how you going to sell it (product or service) and where you going to get the finances to sell it.
• Once your business plan is set decide your marketing plans. Are you going to sell directly to customers markets, shows, etc.  Perhaps you have kids at home so you might want to do a home party or open house. Choose your marketing plans on how to spread your business
• Build your website if you plan to have one.
• If you are selling products you will  need a resale permit or license from your county or state. Contact your state officials on what you need. This will help you buy wholesale without paying taxes your local customers will pay tax to you. You pay your tax annually, yearly, etc.
• You want to check zoning laws about your business in your neighborhood.
• Check with county clerk on laws in regards your business.
• Your state may have a website check there to see laws in regarding your biz.
• Some states have loans or grants you can check on. 
• After you decide what you want to sell or do as a service, how you want to market your business, Your next step is make a list of what you need in order to do the business. For example if you are going to sell crafts at the craft show. You need to first make your products. Start by looking for places to buy your products. Then create the goods.
• You can make use of websites, flyers, business cards, ads in the paper, catalogs if you have them drop off at doctor's office, grocery store, etc.
• Share everyone about your business!
